The Muslim Brotherhood In American Schools
In one edition of the world history book published by Prentice Hall – Pearson Christianity and Judaism were being consistently characterized in a negative light.
Christianity was portrayed with ‘cult-like’ and violent descriptions and the passages on Judaism displayed overt anti-Semitic language.
Islam was covered the most heavily, including full lessons on the Five Pillars and an emphasis on Islam being the “one true religion.”
There were so many complaints pouring in, Prentice Hall – Pearson was forced to pull the 2007 version of the book. It’s successor, toned down some of the slanted rhetoric, however, retained the quantity and tone of materials on Islam.
The two individuals brought in by Pearson to do the review were Susan Douglass and Shabbir Mansuri. Both Douglass and Mansuri have direct ties to the Muslim Brotherhood front group, the Council on Islamic Education (CIE). In 2006, CIE changed it’s name to the Institute on Religion and Civic Values (IRCV).
According to Discover the Networks, IRCV is the leading contributor and consultant to publishers of textbooks and related instructional materials that include Islamic content in the country. The materials produced by IRCV “sanitized, inaccurate information about Islam in K-12 education.”
In the profile for IRCV, Discover the Networks notes that “The Middle East Forum has described IRCV as “a content gatekeeper with virtually unchecked power over publishers.”
IRCV also has direct ties to the Muslim Brotherhood front groups the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) and the unindicted Holy Land Foundation co-conspirators, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
Shabbir Mansuri is the founder of CIE, now known as IRCV. According to Discover the Networks, Susan Douglas is an American convert to Islam and was an “affiliated scholar” at IRCV for well over a decade. Douglass also taught at the Islamic Saudi Academy (ISA). The ISA is a Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated organization.

In 2008, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom recommended ISA to be shut down pending an investigation of claims of rampant anti-semitism, teaching of hate and use of violence towards non-believers and other forms of Islamic indoctrination in its textbooks and teachings. That same year, the director of ISA was arrested for failing to report child abuse occurring on his campus and also charged with obstruction of justice.
The Case of Texas and CSCOPE
The Texas Education Service Center Curriculum Collaborative (TESCCC) and its company, CSCOPE, are the two main producers and distributors of textbooks and curriculum used in the Texas school systems.
Materials CSCOPE put out were widely criticized as propaganda style revisionist history. Multiple reports circa 2012-2013 revealed CSCOPE was whitewashing Islam and terrorism while characterizing those that participated in the Boston Tea Party as “terrorists.”
In terms of religious information, over a dozen instances of Christianity being labeled a “pagan” religion were found. Students were informed in these materials that Christians were known to have been cannibals and engaged in incest.
Similarly, during that same time period, materials produced by CSCOPE stated that “Allah is the Almighty God” leaving students with the impression Allah was the only God. No mention was made that the Prophet Mohammad was a pedophile, having taken a 6-year old girl as his bride and engaged in sex with her when she turned nine.
Islamic Indoctrination at the US Department of Education
During the Obama administration, Muslim Brotherhood operatives and front groups made enormous gains and took up foothold positions within key departments. One such department was the Department of Education.
At the center of this infiltration of the US Department of Education was the Qatar Foundation which had direct ties to domestic terrorist Bill Ayers and to the president at the time, Barack Obama.
“A Muslim Brotherhood-linked organization has partnered with the U.S. Department of Education and the State Department to facilitate an online program aiming to connect all U.S. schools with classrooms abroad by 2016.
Vartan Gregorian, a board member of the organization, the Qatar Foundation International, was appointed in 2009 to President Obama’s White House Fellowships Commission.
WND previously exposed that Gregorian served as a point man in granting $49.2 million in startup capital to an education-reform project founded by former Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers and chaired by Obama.
Documentation shows Gregorian was central in Ayers’ recruitment of Obama to serve as the first chairman of the project, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge – a job in which Obama worked closely on a regular basis with Ayers. (Source: WND)
“Access Islam” and the US DOE
The Muslim Brotherhood had a major victory when the U.S. Department of Education decided to partner Lab Thirteen to produced an Islamic Indoctrination video and curriculum series known as “Access Islam.”
“Access Islam” was begun in 2005. It was and still is funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The program is disseminated to classrooms via outlets such as PBS and the Smithsonian Institute.
“Access Islam is being pushed through PBS via Children’s Programming by Producer Shelley Pasnik. Pasnik has “collaborated” with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and with Thirteen/WNET in the past. It is no coincidence given the connection to the Gates Foundation that the “Access Islam” lessons are ‘Common Core aligned’.
The Clarion Project describes “Access Islam” and its scope:
The lesson plans are written for grades 5 through 12. They include worksheets and videos to help students perform the 5 Pillars of Islam –prayer, fasting, alms giving, pilgrimage to Mecca and the proclamation of Muslim faith. [emphasis added].”
This short video contains excerpted clips taken from the “Access Islam” program which not only teaches children how to perform a Muslim prayer, but asks students such questions as: “What does a Muslim prayer sound like?” “What do the movements look like?” and “What are some of the things Muslims say during prayer?”
Children are also expected to memorize verses from the Quran and give the meaning of those verses.
The Clarion Project states bluntly that “Taken as a whole, the U.S. Department of Education’s “Access Islam” program is nothing short of a Sunday school class on Islam” and that “The DOE provides no even remotely comparable promotion of any other religion.”
In 2017, the Christian Action Network (CAN) demanded the U.S. DOE removal of the “Access Islam” curriculum. CAN also produced a video exposing the program:
To date, it is still being used and there is no indication that Secretary DeVos will be taking steps to remove it.
Lesson Plans for “Access Islam” link directly to Muslim Brotherhood Front groups Muslim American Society (MAS) and the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA).
Links to MAS and ISNA are found in the sections Islam in America, Islam and the First Amendment, and Women and Islam. Links are also provided to a teachers guide at PBS’s FrontLine on how to teach ‘Muslim beliefs.
